Market News

PLEASE NOTE————-We will be CLOSED the week of December 28 with no ordering. -—————————————

Good morning and we hope you are all warm and safe after last night’s severe storms.

We have many new items listed this week from Valentine Family Farm: seasonings to herbal remedies!

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has a light pink and a red Christmas cactus listed. These are GORGEOUS plants to have or to gift! My mother gave me some several years ago and they continue to provide much needed winter cheer with their right-on-time for Christmas showy blossoms! I have even forced a second bloom by repotting!

White City Produce & Greenhouse will be with us this week.

Ann E May’s Gluten Free Goodies has listed several new items this week and will have a table set up for tasting! EVEN if you aren’t “gluten free” these baked goods are wonderful treats!

As I type this and try to think of all the wonderful items to mention on the market… I think of ALL our vendors because everything is wonderful!!

Nature’s Wealth added popcorn that has been grown “on the mountain” for over 30 years! It is small-grained, tender, and hulless. It is DELICIOUS!!!

we have jams, jellies, tempeh, meat of all kinds, milk, yogurt, eggs, baked goods, soaps, and so so much more to choose from!

If you don’t usually take time to browse for a new staple item, please do.. we probably have it!

Always wanted to help someone understand that eating naturally raised, produced or locally made foods/skin care has many benefits? Give them a market gift card, stock their fridge, pantry, freezer and bathroom with a basket of goods from a variety of growers/makers! Who wouldn’t love that gift? It gives to the community by supporting the vendors of the market (then they are able to provide for their families) and gives a wealth of knowledge through experiencing!

All done shopping :D

We will have vendors set up until Christmas each week. This week is Ann E Mays Gluten Free Goodies , Botanical Harmony Farm and possibly several others! We hope you will take an extra moment to browse their products and get to know the people behind the order buttons and photos!

Have a wonderful week!

See you Wednesday!

Tracey & Ashleigh

CLG:  Opening Bell: Pork, Eggs, Apples, Honey!

Good evening!
We will have market every Friday in December! Hopefully we’ll see everyone often. When it’s cold outside, (like right now!) we enjoy making a pot of purple hull peas. Saute a little bacon from Bar C, then add diced onions. After 10 minutes, add a pound of purple hull peas from Green Acres Atkins, a cup of water, 3 dehydrated smoked jalapenos and a tablespoon of Beaverfork Blend from Cedar Rock Ridge, and a ham hock or two from Bar C. Let that simmer for 2 hours. Then take the ham hocks out, pick out the meat and put it back in the pot. Serve with cornbread. MMMmmmmm!

This week’s EXTRAS table will have lots of special puppy treats for all the dogs on your gift list. Come early on Friday for the best selection. There will also be 5 jars of spicy dilled cauliflower pickles! KMG Farms even has a few turkeys available, but don’t delay.

We’re having our 3rd giveaway starting tonight! Each item ordered from Ratchford Farms this week will earn you one entry into the giveaway for a stylish large blue T-shirt featuring Ratchford Farms Buffalo Ranch. For example: Buy 4 packs of ground beef and get 4 entries. A winner will be drawn Friday morning and the winner announced in the Friday Pick-Up Reminder email.

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

Check out over 525 wonderful items listed right now. See you on Friday!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Champaign, OH:  River

It’s coming on Christmas
They’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on…
(River-Joni Mitchell)

One of my favorite Joni songs, as well as another favorite Christmas song…

Well, the weather took a huge turn for the ice and cold, rain, snow mix…the icy surfaces are keeping your market manager in for the night, enjoying a glass of wine, twinkling lights, and music.

I am rather calm for having exactly one million things to do before I can even begin to say I am ready for Christmas. Each year, I get a little more relaxed with it, choosing to just let it all sort of take place.

I did manage to place a market order for this week. Were you able to get your order in? Are you thinking about how nice it would be to order baked goods, breads, meat, eggs, herbs, spices, honey, maple syrup, lettuces, fish, candles, candy, soaps, oils, dog treats, pet bandanas, pies, cookies, coffee, tea, flour in both whole wheat, and gluten free? What can we do to make your holiday an easy and stress free occasion?

Think about it…this is the first time in market history that we are able to remain open right up to the holiday!! Take advantage…we would love to see you!!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

NEWS AND NOTES

We are going to attempt, one more time this Thursday, to have our “Jam and Jelly Tasting Event” from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Taste an assortment of jams and jellies made by several local farmers. The same flavors will be available for sale at the tables. Jams and Jellies by Weaver Farms, Flying S Farms, and Sand Dragon Farm will be available for tasting and sales.

Solace Farm, Frontier Family Farms, Botanical Harmony, Steve’s Bees, and Dogwood Valley Greenhouse will also set up tables at market time (weather permitting). You will be able to see and purchase some of their giftable goodies! You will want to invite your family and friends to visit and experience our market this week. Be sure to join us on Thursday, to hang out for a few minutes and chat with all our friendly farmers!

Amy from Solace Farm writes:
We just picked up our first-ever Solace Farm lamb from the processor, just in time for Christmas. It is just the one, so everything is limited, some cuts more than others. I’m also adding some homemade pumpkin granola, using our own pumpkin instead of butter (so no added fat!) and bits of homemade pumpkin-spice leather as the fruit. We love it, my 6 year old is helping make it – so he can eat it!

This has arrived from Andra of Sow’s Ear Piggery:
Last chance before Christmas for natural non-GMO-fed pork. Chops, shoulder steaks, and round steaks.
Also *NEW: Natural Pork Back Fat for for hunters looking to make venison sausage.*
Don’t be fooled that pork is a heavy meal. That is not the case with natural pork. Even with all the extra indulgences during the holidays, our pork will not leave you feeling stuffed.

And from Lois at Casey Family Farm:
Our cows have finally started milking again. We plan to list milk, but I won’t be sure till Sunday or Monday how much I can list. We appreciate everyone’s patience.

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has added a couple of beautiful young, blooming Christmas cacti, just in time for holiday decorating.

Don’t forget to check what’s included this week in the Produce Boxes from Frontier Family Farm. The contents do vary from week to week, so be sure to fill your frig with all the yummy veggies (and occasionally other items) from a produce box.

Vegetables from White City Produce & Greenhouses will be available this week.

We will be glad to deliver your order to you, at home or a location of your choice, on Friday afternoons for a small fee. Order delivery just like any other product.

(L to R) Pumpkin Spice Granola from Solace Farm, Pork Chops from Sow’s Ear Piggery, Red Christmas Cactus Plant from Dogwood Valley Greenhouse, Beanies in several sizes from Triple B Farms, All White Coconut Cake from Flying S Farms.

IMPORTANT ORDERING AND PICKUP INFORMATION

Ordering will be open until TUESDAY at 10 p.m., and your order will be available for pickup on THURSDAY between 4:00 and 5:30 at our tents located outside Manchester Farm Store, 251 Interstate Dr., Manchester. Thanks so much for your support of Manchester Locally Grown Market, and your friends and neighbors who have grown and produced these items.
