Recipes

Hearty Greens Gratin
from Good Food Matters at Nancyvienneau.com

2-3 bunches greens – collard, kale, broccoli
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
3 cups Half-and-Half
1/2 pound shredded sharp cheddar (can be a combination of yellow and white sharps)

Preheat oven to 350 convection or 375 conventional.

Remove the leaf ribs and tear the leaves into pieces. Place into a large bowl. Sprinkle the leaves with salt, black pepper and nutmeg and toss. Heap the seasoned kale into a 9 inch by 13 inch baking dish. Pour the half-and-half over the kale, taking care that it doesn’t spill over the sides. Top with shredded cheddar, tucking some of the shreds underneath some leaves.

Place into the oven, middle rack, and bake for 45 minutes (convection) or an hour (conventional)

Let cool for 5 minutes and serve.

Makes 8 servings

CLG:  Opening Bell: Duck Eggs, Apples, Cheese, Cauliflower!

Good evening!

Now that all the Thanksgiving frenzy is over, it’s time to start planning for Christmas! The holidays are great for visiting with family and eating lots of delicious food, and we’re very lucky to have so much variety being produce locally. We will be open all FIVE Fridays in December to supply you with lots of fresh, local goodies. Several of your Growers have high tunnels which extend the growing season for their crops. Look for all the cole crops, like Cauliflower, Broccoli, Cabbage, Kale, etc.

We haven’t had a freeze yet at Cedar Rock Ridge, so we are still enjoying fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, basil, etc. If you’d like to enjoy the taste of summer all winter long, why not ask Santa for a food dehydrator? A hearty stew with cherry tomato halves and jalapeno and bell pepper slices tastes so good in February!

Volunteer Opportunity! Because many of our wonderful market workers are college students who will be going home for the holidays, we have some 4-hour shifts available on Friday, December 23rd and 30th. Maybe you have a teenager that would like to earn $20 in food credit? We can put them to work, and they’ll have a great time guaranteed! Call or text Steve for details or questions.

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

Check out over 500 wonderful items listed right now. See you on Friday!

Come early on Friday for the best selection from the EXTRAS table. And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

www.conway.locallygrown.net

Please check your email about 5 minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you for being a valuable part of CLG!
Have a great week!

Good Frosty Morning!

We hope your holiday was wonderful and to kick off the back to regular-life schedule, be sure to get your healthy, locally produced goods right here!

Ann E Mays would like to thank all of the generous customers who bought pies and cakes from the girls last week! My girls are baking their fingers off trying to make Christmas money for gifts and we truly appreciate your support. We will be taking a much needed vacation this week but will be back with pies, cakes and delicious Christmas cookies on December 4. We look forward to seeing you all then!

Linda with Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has been working hard to be ready for your holiday needs! She sends this note

Dogwood Valley Greenhouse has some things to help with your Christmas decorations. This year, in addition to our kissing balls, we also have centerpiece baskets of greenery. They’re selling as fast as I can make them at this time, so place your order soon.

Botanical Harmony Farm has added an Organic Green Tea and Sea Clay soap to their lineup. Amazing antioxidants and pulling power to help clear oily skin yet not leave it dry! Goat milk is nourishing and helps repair skin cells!

They also have a new Eco-Soy Candle in a variety of Fragrances.

“While we don’t use any fragrance oils in our skin care, Phtalate-free fragrance oils along with exceptionally clean-burning, renewable, soy-oil and paper core wicks are a great choice for burning in the home.
We love the scents we have chosen and hope you will too! There will be seasonal favorites, themed gift sets and more to come! We are working hard to be ready for your holiday gifting!”

See you Wednesday!

As always, we thank L & L Contractors for their hospitality and generosity in hosting our market! Please remember them in your contracting needs! They support us so please return the support to them!

See you Wednesday!
