Farm to Table Recipes

ROASTED WINTER VEGETABLES


1 Onion, cut in vertical strips
1 Red Potato, washed and cubed
1 beet, peeled and cubed
1 small butternut squash (or sweet potato), peeled & cubed
1 lb fresh or frozen brussel sprouts
2 or 3 carrots, washed & sliced
Toss all prepared vegetables together in oven proof baking dish. Sprinkle with kosher salt and pepper. Drizzle with Blood Orange Infused Olive Oil* (available at Charter Spices & Oils)
Bate at 350 degrees for 45 minutes


*other oil flavors can be substituted

Big thanks to coordinator Georgia Organics, our host at St. Luke UMC, and all 60+ local food advocates who showed up last night to make some real and lasting changes in our local food system. Next meeting is March 3 … and YOU are invited!

FRI, JAN 8 – ’AUGUSTA EATS LOCAL" CAMPAIGN IS LAUNCHED AT HUMANITREE HOUSE! Come hear what all the excitement is about! Join us for a 2pm unveiling ceremony at 230 8th Street, Augusta. This campaign is run by a super dynamic committee of local food advocates.

MON, JAN 11 – WHOLESOME WAVE PRESENTATION – Several participants of our FVRx program have been invited to present their experiences with this national organization at their annual conference in Atlanta. G.R.O.W. Harrisburg!!!! Hugs in advance to Kisha and Angel for making the trek, and to Nancy for providing the heart.

SAT, SUN, MON, JAN 16-18 – “MLK WEEKEND OF SERVICE” AT ICEBOX MINISTRIES’ CHILDREN’S TEACHING GARDEN – Come help build this teaching garden campus, designed for school children at Icebox Ministries in Harrisburg. Volunteer work goes from 9am-3pm each … lunch shared together afterwards. Get your church and other groups involved! RSVP to kim@augustalocallygrown.org.

FRI, JAN 29 – TEDX AUGUSTA – We’re very excited to again play a part in helping with the TedxAugusta event in 2016. What a great way to promote local foods among our community’s deep thinkers. Very very excited to announce that all our volunteer slots are filled! Big love to Leadership Augusta and our own board of directors for making that happen!

SUN, JAN 31 – CROB MOB AT CLYDE’S FRESH PRODUCE IN GROVETOWN WITH THE SOUL CITY SIRENS – What’s a crop mob, you ask!? Good question! Imagine 30-40 volunteers, gathered for an afternoon on a farm, all volunteering their time to get something big done for the local farmer. This time, we’ll be planting dozens of fruit trees! And this event has a bonus … work alongside the Soul City Sirens Roller Derby Team who will also be volunteering that day! Of course, we’ll share a farm-fresh meal afterwards. Save the date! Time: 1pm-4pm for work, dinner
afterwards.

WED, FEB 3 – WEDNESDAY WORKSHOPS AT RED CLAY MARKET KICK-OFF DAY! – ALG will host a winter series of delicious, nutritious and just plain fun workshops at Red Clay Market in Evans, 4:30pm-6pm. Stay tuned for the list!

THUR, FEB 11 – 200 IN HARRISBURG RAISED BED PROJECT – Come help us install free raised bed vegetable gardens at individual families’ homes throughout the neighborhood of Harrisburg in Augusta. 9am-1pm. We feed our volunteers afterwards!

THU, FEB 25 – FARM TO SCHOOL SUMMIT WITH GEORGIA ORGANICS IN COLUMBUS, GA – ALG will be taking a group of local educators to the Farm to School Summit in Columbus, GA. Are you an educators interested in getting such a program started at your school! Text Kim at 706-288-7895 to get the enrollment link. The workshop is only $15, taught by top notch folks doing this nationwide!

FRI, FEB 26 – GEORGIA ORGANIC CONFERENCE – A whole campaign of folks from Food Oasis Augusta will attend this wonderful weekend event of pure fun and food. If you’re not already enrolled, go to georgiaorganics.org to sign up!

MON, FEB 29 – “CRACK OF DAWN,” WALK-TO-SCHOOL OUTDOOR EGG BREAKFAST FOR KIDS – Yet another lovely thing going on at Icebox Ministries as part of our G.R.O.W. Harrisburg initiatives! More info soon.

SAT, MAR 5 – GARDEN WORKDAY AT THE CLUBHOU.SE – Come meet the folks at the Clubhou.se, help with their community garden, and meet the folks who make it happen. Starting at 10am.

The market is back up and running for orders to be picked up January 15, 2016. Isn’t it great to have all the produce on the Market! All the produce survived the freeze so order now!

Just a reminder, the Market closes to orders at 8 pm Wednesday evening. If you have questions, feel free to email me at IFMmarketplace@gmail.com or call 276-235-8230. Please bring cash or checks. You’ll still be dealing with each individual vendor.
