Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  Time to Order Fresh Local Farm Products!

Good morning!

The market is open as usual, and will remain open for your orders till Tuesday at 10 pm. Please be sure to read the section of the page entitled “Important Ordering and Pickup Information.”

Farm News of the Week

From Molly Cornelison of Kountry Vittles:
First I must apologize, I put up the wrong picture for the Personal Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cheesecakes; the issue has been fixed. It was a busy week in my little bakery with birthdays, graduations, and the end of the school year. Lots of Fresh Strawberry Pies were ordered and delivered, and I must say the berries are looking wonderful. Chocolate Meringue Pie is another popular pie during this time of the year as well. I will soon be replenishing my supply of fresh blueberries, so I should soon have plenty for some tasty Blueberry Cobblers.

(L to R) Fresh Strawberry Pie and Blueberry Cobbler.

Knottynuffacres has added Artisan Bread Loaf.

Eat seasonally! We have lots of delicious spring vegetables available right now! Try something new, and please post your favorite recipes to the Recipe section of the website. Thank you for helping us all eat more healthy and local.

Botanical Harmony Farm has added several new products in the category of “Bath and Beauty.”

(L to R) Bug Away, Bath Salt

Welcome more spring vegetables from Flying S Farm.

(L to R)‘Little Gem’ Small Head Cabbage, Broccoli Head.

Important Ordering and Pickup Information

Ordering will be open until TUESDAY at 10 p.m., and your order will be available for pickup on THURSDAY between 4:00 and 5:30 at our tents located outside Manchester Farm Store, 251 Interstate Dr., Manchester. We can also deliver your order to your home (or other location) on Friday afternoons, for a small fee, if it’s more convenient for you. If you prefer to utilize this service, please place an order for it, same as other products, selecting your delivery area. Don’t forget to give us your location address in the comments section of the order. Also please text Linda at (931) 273-9708 for specific arrangements.

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible. Please encourage our local farmers by helping to spread the word about our wonderful market to everyone you know. We offer a great variety of local farm products, and our items will be in your hands in time to plan for the weekend. Wonderful local products are available for ordering from the comfort of your own computer.

More new farmers are considering joining our market, if they can expect enough sales to help pay their transportation costs. Please help us grow the market by sharing this e-mail with your friends and inviting them to give us a try. And if you haven’t ordered from Manchester Locally Grown for a while, please check out our wide variety of offerings this week. Also please let us know if we can improve our selection or scheduling in any way to better suit your needs.

Blessings,
Linda & Michael

PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30pm!

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

Old99Farm Market:  Milk Legal Battle finale next week

First read this: http://www.davidgumpert.com/o-canada-will-become-first-nation-criminalize-raw-milk-consumption

Supporters of farmgate food sources,
The time has come to put our time, our money or our mouth where our passion lies. I know we are passionate about having raw milk for our families, however unless each one of us steps up and commits to taking some action to support our farmers, they may be forced to give up the fight due to the toll this whole process takes on their health. Remember they will be able to continue drinking their raw milk if the injunction is enforced by the court, however we will not.

In fact, under the conditions of the injunction, anyone even talking about the consumption of the raw milk or trying to solicit it from a farmer can be held criminally liable. My point is this is our cause!

Please make a commitment to one of the suggestions below clicking on the link and signing your name. Stand up and be counted! We the people have the power however we must take an action!

Options:
1. PLEASE make arrangements now to take that day (or just the morning) off to attend the hearing at the Newmarket Courthouse at 50 Eagle St W, Newmarket, ON L3Y 6B1.
It is absolutely critical that as many people as possible be there.
We are going to have a peaceful rally in front of the court house. Please bring signs.

2. Go to https://www.gofundme.com/foodrights and pledge a one-time amount to the cause or a smaller monthly amount for 6-12 months.
3. Have friends over and discuss why you are passionate about the freedom to choose raw milk.
4. Make a phone call to your MPP and let him/her know why this is important to you. Be clear that harassing our farmers is not where you want your hard earned tax dollars to go. Ask for direction in how to go about having this archaic law abolished and encourage dialog with the producers of raw milk.
5. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper asking why this story is not being covered by them.
6. Call your radio station and ask to speak to the news room and share your frustration that they are complacent about the government handling of this whole issue. My goodness, when animals are rescued from abusive factories it hits all the airwaves and yet nothing about this important subject?
7. Write to TVO and fill them in on this ridiculous case.

Please if you have any other idea, share it. Together we can find the solution!
Keep blowing whistles. They have to hear us and they have to finally listen.

Volunteers

Just something to think about… Every week, Cindy Ford, Susan Coker, Sue Martinson come early to Market to assist Kathy Barnes, Market Coordinator (and KEB Barnes) with unpacking her car, lugging all the items you have ordered into the Church Hall, separating each item and placing it in ‘your space’ with your invoice. They continue their efforts with setting up displays and the Farmers’ Sale Table, coordinate with each other to ensure all is ready for Member pickup. Assisting Members with finding items, answering questions, offering ideas for recipes, checking out Members with the purchases and finally cleaning up and re-packing; they truly have a very busy day! Without them, the Market could NOT function! Ladies, know that I appreciate your efforts and your dedication to the Members and to our Market! I offer you my heart-felt gratitude! Thank you!

The Market ‘Hub’ / Lawrenceville Market Needs a New Home

We have been the guests of the Park family, utilizing a storage building for Market delivery (several deliveries made Tuesday or Wednesday), distribution (all items for BOTH Markets delivered there), separated by Market location. In addition, this has been the Pickup Location for the Members of the Lawrenceville Market.

Stan and Nicole have been renting the property for a number of years and the Landlord has decided to sell. They must vacate by the end of June and so must we! If you know of some place that would be willing to sponsor the Market (allow us to use space), please contact me as soon as possible. If a suitable place cannot be found, the Market will be closing. Please give me ideas! I have made inquiries with some churches, nutritionists offices and chiropractic offices. You can email me at heirloomlivingmarket@gmail.com or call me at 404-432-4337

We appreciate your support of our LOCAL Farmers and of the Market! Please SHARE the Market with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers!
