Heirloom Living Market Lilburn:  Odering closes at 8:00pm! Have you ordered???

The Market closes at 8:00pm!

Pickup Hours extended!
Thursday 3:30pm – 6:30pm

I cannot stress enough the need for us to meet minimum ordering amounts for delivery to be feasible for our Farmers as well as to keep the Market open! We are almost to minimum! If you haven’t ordered, please click the link below and place your order now! We appreciate your support of our LOCAL Farmers and of the Market!

Take me to the Lilburn Market.

…a few notes…

My Daily Bread has their yummy offerings on the Market this week. Dabrielle and her son Brandon have created a Gluten Free Pumpkin Roll! We will have samples available at Market pickup this week! Also be sure and check out the Organic Dog Treats! Going forward they will continue weekly offerings! (Barring any unforeseen circumstances and continued support by our Members!)

Our reduced selection of local veggies is due to Mother Nature’s lack of rain for crops to grow and flourish. It has been a difficult year for our Farmers and I ask your prayers them, (as well as for some much needed rain!)

Fry Farm has items listed on the Market this week. Please check out Vicky and Steve’s offerings! Vicky listed a great deal on Sweet Potatoes!

It is time to think about Pre-Ordering Holiday Meats! Hams, Turkeys, Turkey Breasts are all available from the Hutchins Family of Heritage Farm! These options will NOT be available for long and are only available as Pre-Orders! Don’t miss this great opportunity!

For those of you who order milk — Sam makes a 375 mile round trip to ensure that we have fresh milk. Our milk orders are down drastically from last year and this is becoming a burden to Sam. Financially it is not sustainable. In lieu losing this wonderful product and resource permanently, we are discussing going to an every other week delivery. Cows do not stop giving milk because our orders are down – consistency in ordering is important! I will keep you informed as news becomes available!

Market News

October already? Looks like a beautiful week ahead of us, just right for both the summer veggies hanging on in the garden and the fall crops coming in. Hopefully we can get more like this right on to frost (preferably mixed with a bit more rain)!

Here’s something I haven’t talked about in a while… despite all of our best efforts, sometimes the things you order don’t make it into your baskets come Thursday. The growers try their best, but sometimes they aren’t able to fill orders for a variety of reasons. They almost always go into the system and remove the items they can’t fill by 2pm on Thursday, so by then you should be able to look at your order on the website and get a reasonable expectation of what we’ll have ready for you when you arrive. Even then, though, things can go wrong. A grower can leave a box at home, sitting on their kitchen counter, and when we go to fill your order, an item might be missing. We mark those items off on the spot, using our little hand-held devices, and try to tell you when we hand you your items. And sometimes, we mess up ourselves filling your orders and think we put everything in your box only to find a bag with your name on it at the end of the night. In that case, we take it off your order and automatically issue a refund to your account if you paid in person when you picked things up.

The majority of you are pre-paying these days, though, using cards online. That’s great for everyone, as it really streamlines the process. It’s a bit of a misnomer, though, because even though you placed your order on Monday or Tuesday, I don’t actually run the cards until the end of the night on Thursday, after all the orders have been finalized. That way, you’re never charged for items the growers took off, or didn’t bring, or that we left out of your box. You can see exactly what you were charged for, and what the status was for every item on your order, by looking at your order history on the Your Account page. There, you can see a PDF invoice for every order you have ever placed at ALG, a line-by-line accounting for every item, and the total you were charged (or paid in person).

And if you ever have any question, please don’t hesitate to ask them of me. Just reply to any email the system sends you, and it’ll come right to me.

Thanks so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

The Athens Farmers Market is open on Saturdays at Bishop Park and Wednesday afternoons downtown at Creature Comforts. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market from the Athens Land Trust is open Saturday mornings and Wednesdays from 11am-2pm in the atrium at St. Mary’s Hospital. They have a website too. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open for the season on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. The Oconee County Farmers Market is open on Saturdays in Watkinsville. Their website is www.oconeefarmersmarket.org. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running from 9-1. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest, and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Market News

Hello!

We are sure loving these beautiful Fall days! Low temperatures, no humidity and clear blue skies make for wonderful work conditions – and the plants love it, too! Hope you are all getting some good outside time these days!

We have a lovely selection of Fall crops for you, as well as some lingering summer fare. DOn’t miss out on the beans, zucchini, and the last of the tomatoes, as they won’t be around much longer! We do have a nice assortment of greens, winter squashes of all kinds, and potatoes!

Also this week, Sugar Camp Farm has a bountiful chestnut tree and we get to reap the reward! These chestnuts are so delicious roasted and then peeled and eaten while still warm! They can also be used in many recipes. If you have never tried them now is the time!

We just want to remind you that when placing your order and an item is sold out, feel free to let us know in the comments section of your order that you would like some if available!~ Often we are able to make that request and can add it to your order as we pack!

Thank you so much for all your support!
See you Wednesday!
John and Tallahassee
