Dawson Local Harvest:  Eat Salad and a Butt!

Dawson Local Harvest for October

Eat Salad and a Butt!

HI EVERYBODY!

I apologize profusely for my weird sense of humor, but I simply could not resist that headline. In fact I haven’t shown it to Leilani because she might make me take it down! But it’s not as perverse as it sounds. I’m talking about FIVE HENS’ Pork Boston Butt and their Picnic Shoulder, both of which are excellent as Pork roasts and for BBQ. In fact, I’m going to quickly tell you about a great, super-easy way of preparing Boston Butt for BBQ. Take one Butt, season and brown if you like (or not as you prefer), put in a slow cooker, dump a small bottle of liquid smoke over it, and let it cook 6 hours. That’s it! Totally delicious!

Of course you need salad with that, and Leilani’s has lots of picked-fresh Lettuces including Romaine, Waldmann green, Red Sails, Salad mix, and more, along with absolutely gorgeous Eggplants (my favorite is the small, tender white Gretel) and lots more besides. Take a look in the Vegetable section for this week’s offerings.

A reminder that we have non-pasteurized Raw Milk available from our local dairy Little Brown Cow Creamery. Since in the state of Georgia raw Milk is for pet consumption only, I wouldn’t know from personal experience, but my pet cat Boo Boo told me that it has a “nice, rich buttery taste full of flavor”, and she never lies to me. Worth checking out.

As always, check the listings for other nice surprises.

THE MARKET WILL OPEN Sunday night at 8pm!

REMEMBER! You can order until Tuesday night at 9 pm. Pick up your order at Leilani’s Gardens Friday afternoons from 4 to 7pm.

You’ll find the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST at http://dawsonville.locallygrown.net

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible! We guarantee your satisfaction with all products in the DAWSON LOCAL HARVEST.
