CANE CREEK FARM ANNOUNCES FALL CSA

Local, Seasonal Food Picked Up Weekly from Family-Owned Farm

CUMMING, GA (August 1, 2016) – Cane Creek Farm, located in the western part of Forsyth County near Cumming, sits on almost eighteen acres along Cane Creek. The farm has four acres in cultivation with fields of vegetables and flowers, orchard and fruit trees, berries, pastures of sheep, cows and chickens, and over 200 shitake mushroom logs. The farm is managed using organic practices to produce clean, nutritious produce for the community.

Cane Creek Farm’s fall CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) begins the week of August 10 and extends for 12 weeks, with pick-up at the farm on Wednesdays or Saturdays or at Johns Creek Yoga on Tuesdays. Sign up continues beyond the week of August 10 and extends for 12 weeks from the date of registration.

“A CSA is a way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from farmers,” says Cane Creek Farm Owner Lynn Pugh. “Our CSA includes a weekly harvest of seasonal produce including fruits, vegetables and pick-your-own herbs and flowers. Fall is my favorite CSA season!”

Medium and large CSA shares are available. Members also receive a weekly electronic newsletter with farm happenings, weekly share items, recipes and nutrition tips.

Fall shares include okra, eggplant, a variety of peppers, peas, beans, pumpkins, carrots, tomatillos, edamame, sweet potatoes, malabar spinach, squash, muscadine grapes, lettuces, Asian greens, kale, pac choi, radishes, collards, beets and broccoli. Herbs include rosemary, chocolate mint, marjoram, basil, oregano, tarragon and savory.

“The CSA program at Cane Creek Farm has been amazing experience,” says Cumming resident Angie Platten. “My kids and I enjoy going to the farm each week to pick up our vegetables, and we sometimes volunteer to enjoy the peaceful environment and learn more about where food comes. We feel good about supporting local agriculture and eating new and healthy foods.”

To register for Cane Creek’s fall CSA, visit the farm’s website at www.canecreekfarm.net. The cost for the 12-week share is $445 for the large share and $325 for the medium share.

Miami County Locally Grown:  Opening Night! And Introducting...

We are OPEN FOR ORDERS until Sunday at 8pm! And here’s our first Featured Vendor…

Katie Bensman – Mother Suds Soap Company!!

I can’t say enough about this woman, her beautiful family, and the amazing products she has been crafting for six years.

Katie is equally concerned about what she feeds her young children as what she puts on their bodies… what better way to control those potentially harmful body products than by making your own?! For the rest of us, we’re lucky to benefit from her expertise and craftsmanship! Her Baby Bottom Soap is the best soap I’ve ever used on my own children who have very sensitive skin. After trying it, I’ve honestly never bought anything else for them.

Having had the privilege to learn the soap-making process in her home, it speaks volumes about her experience and dedication that despite my utter lack of knowledge and all our children running amok, that batch of soap turned out beautifully, second only to what she creates alone without such awkward assistance :-)

The virtual market was still in the works this past Spring when I questioned whether she’d be interested in participating with her full line of soap, laundry, and body care products. Her answer? She’d have to wait until later in the growing season for her calendula plants to bloom, as she needed to make an infusion for her soaps. That dedication to creating a local, unique product is why supporting truly “local” matters for you. The thoughtfulness and concern she puts into her products is not only apparent but admirable, and I’m grateful to know her, her husband and her two feisty, adorable girls.

I admire and appreciate these vendors, and want you to know, love and support them as I do!

Thank you for joining us, Happy Shopping, and Welcome to our Market!

Gwinnett Locally Grown:  THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN!!

Good morning everyone!

Hope your week is going well thus far.

THE MARKET IS NOW OPEN, CLICK HERE TO PLACE YOUR ORDER NOW!

A few weeks ago, Andrea from Rapid Gourmet came to the market and gifted me a couple of her homemade goodies. I was able to try her Couscous Cranberry Almond Mix, it was DELICIOUS to say the least and truly lived up to the company's name.. very fast and truly gourmet! As a vegetarian, I ate mine as a meal all on its own but it will go very well with any type of protein! I also tried her Jambalaya Mix, super hearty and so fast! Both of these products have a little kick, so if you like a little spice I really recommend you give it a try! Her Pumpkin Orange Spice jam is like Autumn in your mouth! Haha if like me you can't wait until fall season gets here… give this jam a go!

As always, tons of fresh veggies, milk (cheese making anyone?!), pastured chicken and pork (bacon!) along with tons of other goodies so come by the market and check it out!

Remember, I'll see you all on Tuesday at Rancho Alegre Farm for pick up (4-7pm). Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments, I'll be happy to help!

SEE YOU ALL ON TUESDAY!
