Old99Farm Market:  Old 99 farm Fri Mar 11 2015

Wow, I just gotta share this with y’all. A rise of 4/10s of 1% of soil carbon would result in the annual storage of 3.4 billion tonnes of soil carbon, countering the rise in atmospheric CO2. With suitable farming methods this is very doable, but farmers will need assurance from policy setters that they can benefit from changing their chemical dependent ways.

One of my ‘go to’ sites is Regenerative Agriculture and they’re hot right now. They are teamed up with the French in a program called 4P1000 Initiative, to meet multiple goals for improving human health, soil fertility, reducing carbon pollution and increasing food production. The Organic Consumers Association and IFOAM Organics International praised the French Government’s 4 per 1000 Initiative as the most important climate strategy to come out of the COP21 Paris Climate Talks.

Watch a video here on how the small scale intensive farmers can apply this thinking and earn a living.

Read more here. This is a report on how soil affects health of plants and in turn the humans that eat them.

A main vector for improving human health from this regenerative approach to agriculture is the soilfoodweb, the microbial diversity that exists in healthy soil.

A pediatric neurologist from NYC is quoted in the Mercola article, “Take a trip to the forest with your family … Community gardens are also wonderful. So are farmers’ markets. They expose children to fresh foods, which taste completely different. And it also exposes them to potentially healthy microbes through the traces of soil that might be left over on the fruits and vegetables when you buy them at a farmers’ market.” It’s because the diversity of microbes that our bodies, especially kids, are exposed to that strengthens our immune system against diseases. The journey of her child’s soy allergy led her to write the book “The Dirt Cure: Growing Healthy Kids With Food Straight from Soil.”

Champaign, OH:  Can't Stop This Love

You can’t stop this love…
(Daniel Dye and the Miller Road Band)

Tonight we open the market up for the week!! It was a great market week, last week, with an amazing market order pick up night, tonight!!

When I am working the market, I always am taken over by just how much I love this little market of love. How much happiness this market brings. How communal, and love filled, and giving, and sharing…it’s a love fest of community.

Local. Where local meets local meets local. I am so proud of this market, the vendors that come to us, each and every week, the community who supports us, the YMCA for housing and supporting us, and for the cross promoting with like minded, local spirited, entities.

We love you all!! Your two market managers are excited to take this market to levels that we have never experienced. We are excited to make announcements, work with the vendors, educate the customers and community, and to help elevate the already exploding market sales!!

When you have passionate, like minded, dedicated market managers, you just can’t stop this love…the local love that was created in this market, almost 5 years ago. We have grown, learned, planned…and now…you can’t stop this!!

A HUGE shout out about the song of choice, tonight, from a family who really can’t stop their love of each other, their community, and the local movement.

We all go hand in hand…we are all this local love quest…

The market opens, tonight, for all of your ordering needs!!

Thank you, for your never ending love…

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Beef B&G has sadly decided to no longer carry grass fed beef. To simplify their farm they’ve decided to concentrate on their pastured Berkshire pork and cornish cross chickens.

I will be visiting a ranch tomorrow in Watkinsville and if everything works out we’ll have beef on the market very soon. I’ll keep you all updated.

Right now B&G still has Ribeye Steaks and Sirloin Steaks. B&G will continue to list all their pastured pork and chicken.

Halibut – Alaskan Wild Caught SALE! – Doug just added the last of the catch for this season before he heads back to Alaska. He also put it ON SALE! $10 per pack! Once it’s gone we won’t have anymore until October. This a beautiful white fist with a delicate, mild flavor. Great grilled or baked and perfect for FISH TACOS!

NEW ITEMS!

Pear Cherry Preserve – I hope you all enjoyed meeting Andrea from Rapid Gourmet on Tuesday! She has now listed her newest item Pear Cherry Preserve that many of you enjoyed sampling. It is all natural and tastes great. Try it on roasted chicken or poultry, as drizzle over ice cream, pound cake, pancakes, or simply as a spread on your morning toast.

Water Buffalo – Sausage – Rosemary/Garlic – No MSG, gluten, nitrites, or fillers in these tasty grass fed water buffalo sausages. Our buffalo live a specie-appropriate lifestyle and are humanely harvested. They are raised with love and respect, not hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides. Water buffalo meat is known for being a heart healthy red meat, nutrient dense — high in CLA (a good fat that helps our bodies to burn fat) and B-vitamins. Enjoy!
